The Netherlands is a densely populated country. People live closely together. As a result inhabitants often come in contact with each other. In some cases this may lead to differences of opinion or even conflict situations. This is why the law provides guidelines and determines which rules need to be complied with by neighbours.

Before you address your neighbour, it can be useful to check which rights and duties you have. During the conversation with your neighbour you will know what to say and what to expect of him/her. Only when it is entirely impossible to settle the issue with your neighbour on friendly terms, you can take the matter to court. The judge will then pass judgment and all parties are bound by this.
